It all started when...

I took a leap from a successful ten year career in branding into the world of interiors back in 2010.

Initially gaining industry experience with design studio Sigmar and leading brand Designers Guild, and then a couple private projects under my belt, I co-created barkerbournedesign in 2011, with the ambition to create an accessible design studio. My design partnership was lucky enough to work across a broad variety of briefs and styles. We created a down to earth, flexible approach centred around our clients, delivering affordable, bespoke creative solutions for homes and businesses. Taking on this ethos, I decided to work under my own name in 2014, following the start of my family.

I work closely with my clients and trade partners to create homes and business environments that have great design at their heart. Each project is unique, to suit a client’s brief and budget. I'm passionate about delivering curated considered designs that work, and excites.

I strongly believe that a successful design project results from three core elements:

A great working partnership with clients

Reliable trade network

Creativity

I've been lucky enough to work on approximately 50 projects so far, across London and the Home Counties. From apartments and offices, of all shapes and sizes, to 6 bedroom homes. In the last two years it's been back to back complete refurbishments of family homes, predominantly in SW London. Whilst it's been very busy, it's been a joy too.

A selection of projects are shown here. I hope to share my current projects, which include a Chelsea townhouse, Fulham maisonette and Tonsley Townhouse, shortly. To keep up to date with my goings on, please join me on Instagram and Facebook

what's involved:

Successful projects are driven by great working partnerships, both with my clients and the trade.

I become good friends with my clients; our relationship is built around camaraderie and honesty. At least 90% of my work is through word of mouth or continued working partnerships.

I have a flexible approach and work to suit each client.

I'm here to help, and we will work out together the best working relationship. I can either be hands on and cover all aspects from start to finish, or I can be an ad hoc consultant giving you guidance in transforming your home or business.

Typically, a project is best achieved through three steps...

STEP 1

Ideas of what’s possible, what can be achieved.

I can develop a potential design concept for you, where we will see how best to transform your home or business space.

STEP 2

The details.

With the creative concept, I can develop and fine tune the design and it’s application in order to specify each element needed to deliver a complete interior design.

From first fix through to soft furnishings and artwork.

This is a balance of creative mixed with the practicalities of cost; spreadsheets; CAD drawing sheets and a schedule of works. Giving you a break down of cost per product/ room, along with a detailed costing from contractors.

STEP 3

With the specification defined, this step is about implementing the design: settling the invoices and processing orders; overseeing production where required, and logistics for product delivery; on site reviews of work in progress and completed; snagging and contractor/supplier valuations.

From pen and paper to the physical formation and styling of your new home.

Fees

My fee is based on time/scope to deliver what's needed, not by commission or a percentage of the project cost. I believe this keeps me impartial and working solely for you with aligned incentives to meet and get the most out of your budget. Step 1 is a fixed fee and I use a spreadsheet matrix tally to work out step 2 and 3, as this depends on my role. Step 2 and 3 are solely dependent on scope/what’s needed, so you can see exactly how my fee is calculated.
